Cancun means "Golden Snake" in Mayan.
It is located in Quintana Roo and bathed by the clear waters of Caribbean. It is known for its beauty and archaeological remains, which are conserved in magnificent condition. It is one of the most modern and important tourist resorts in Mexico. It is characterized by its beautiful beaches, where the sand is particularly fine and white due to its coral origin.
Caribbean Sea of crystal clear water, displays a variety of blues that range from emerald to turquoise and climate is excellent: Pools of crystalline water on the beaches, sports, shows and landscape.
Archaeological areas in Cancun display the remnants of its past. El Rey area, surrounded by palm groves, shows traces of facade from post-classic period; and it will be completed by visiting Archaeological Museum of Cancun.
Cancun is the port of entry to two of the most important ecological attractions in Mexican Caribbean:
1- Contoy Island, Caribbean eco-tourist paradise, which is maintained in its original state of preservation. On this coral island there is all kinds of herons, pelicans and other aquatic birds. There is also interesting museum.
2- The very large, "Sian Ka'an", declared Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, has over 350 species of birds, and many small archaeological sites, along with forests, lagoons, swamps and exotic underwater habitats.
