In the early 1900s, While Coronado Island was catering to the "Who's Who" of High Society, Pacific Beach was creating their own plans to harvest the tourist industry. Plans for train lo La Jolla via Pacific Beach got locals investing heavily in development, but the concept was flop.
Also, known as "Lemon Capital of the World", when its inhabitants turned to farming to stabilize its economy. Mission Bay was dredged in 1945, transforming the ugly mud flats into gigantic 4800 acre aquatic park.

1896, by Victor Hinkle, the first fruit grower in San Diego
Haskins Home
1910, built by a Chicago Industrialist and restored by private enterprise
Dunaway
1925, Brick commercial considered a serious gamble for this building period
Crystal Pier
1927, Built to attract new buyers with a midway to entice tourism; in 1936, investors built a lodge and pier.
Rose Creek Cottage
This Tudor-style cottage was once the dining room of Braemar Scripps Estate. It was moved, in 1986, and renovated.
