Agra
204 km from Delhi is the "City of Taj". This mausoleum, with splendid architecture, completed in 1653, is the memorial built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his queen, Mumtaz Mahal.

Although Taj Mahal dominates the landscape of Agra, the city has many other famous monuments.

Bhakra
Over 300 km North of Delhi is the site of the highest straight-gravity dam in the world.
A giant multi-purpose project across Sutlej, it has become the symbol of India's economic regeneration.

Delhi
The Capital of Indian Republic is often the starting point of a visit to India. It is a city, which phoenix-like has risen many times from its ashes.
Today, there are two Delhis, the old city of Mongol built by "Shah Jahan", the emperor who built "Taj Mahal" in Agra, and the new city built by british in 1931.

It is stimulating juxtaposition of the old and the new. Old Delhi evokes Mongol ambience and New Delhi has boulevards and imposing office buildings.
Both the cities are rich in monuments.

New Delhi
Delhi is the Capital of India, third Indian largest city, and the home of some of the finest monuments of the Mongol Empire and British Raj. It's also one of the most important centers of India's busiest air lines, the hub of the North-Indian travel network and an excellent base from which to visit Agra and Jaipur, two of India's most popular cities.

Travelers to Delhi get two cities for the price of one. Old Delhi, the capital of Muslim India between the mid-17th and late 19th centuries, is full of formidable mosques, monuments and forts. It's a live Area of colorful Bazar, narrow streets and barely controlled chaos. Jama Masjid is also an ancient monument, there.

Jaipur
Called the "Pink City", Jaipur is an hour's flight or 308 km by train from Delhi.
Bounded by 18th century walls, Jaipur has palaces and picturesque people.
The men wear bright-colored turbans and the women great swimming skirts.

Kashmir
North India is dotted with picturesque Himalayan resorts. Outstanding among them is Kashmir valley described by Mongol Emperor Jahangir as the "Paradise on Earth".
Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital , Srinagar lies on the banks of the river Jhelum, which is spanned by nine bridges.

Srinagar has many charms: Excellent accommodation in houseboats moored on the banks of the lakes, a Shikara people boat ride in the quiet of moonlit night with hills rising in the background and limitless variety of handicrafts. But Srinagar is only the starting point of holiday in Kashmir.

Snow-capped peaks and wild majesty of mountains and rocks in and beyond Pahalgam contrast with the grace of the sophisticated summer and winter resort of Gulmarg, laid out with one of the world's highest golf courses.

Kulu
Twin valleys with unsophisticated charm.
Famous for their apple orchards and dotted with Rajput forts, standing on the summits of immense crags, these valleys provide splendid scenery and glimpses of the life of Himachal's hardy peasants.
Good treks and ample fishing.

Udaipur, Chittorgarh
Redolent of the glamour and chivalry of ancient Rajasthan.
Built on the slopes of green hills, Udaipur is the city of lakes, island-palaces and parks.
Chittorgarh with its ruin forts and Victory Rower, recalls a hundred stories of heroism and chivalry.

Varanasi (Benares)
The holy city of Hindus, Varanasi is 760 km South-east of Delhi, living symbol of Hindu religious belief and observance.
Prayer and meditation in Varanasi is conducted on the waterfront. Endless streams of people come to the great flights of steps leading to the river for prayer and ablution.

On the outskirts of Varanasi is Sarnath, a great center of Buddhist pilgrimage. It was here that Buddha preached his first sermon, 2500 years ago.
