Kermanshah province is located in the middle of Western part of Iran and covers 24,434 Sq. km. It is surrounded by Kurdistan province from North, Iraq from West, Hamadan province from East and Lorestan from South.

It is cold in mountainous regions and mild in plains. The most well-known mountains are "Kouh Sefid", "Parou" and "Bazi Deraz". Kangavar, Sahneh and Islam-abad districts are in plain areas, which are watered by Dinor, Khoram-roud, Gamasiab and Qara-Su rivers.

The mirages and several ponds, such as Ravansar, Bistoun and Sonqor are some of the impressive natural beauty of the province. The beauty of nature in Richap, Taq Bostan and Bistoun are considerable. Vegetation of the province is mainly made up of oak trees and pasture.

Kermanshah province has been the home of man since Paleolithic and Neolithic ages. It was very glorious in Achaemenid and Sassanid eras and was highly regarded by the kings of those times, as it is shown in the historical monuments found there.

Kurd, Lor, Arab, Fars and Turk people live in this province and speak in their own language. In addition to the inhabitants of the towns and villages, there are many nomadic societies throughout the province. The major religions are Shiite and Sunnite branches of Islam. In different regions of the province, there are different sects, each one having their own ritual.

In ancient times, trade route, linking China and South-east of Asia with Middle East, passed through this province. Now, Kermanshah airport and asphalt roads link the cities.

The economy of Kermanshah is mainly on agriculture as wheat, oat and various fruits. Animal husbandry, apiculture and fishing of of other activities. Also chemical, textile and food industries are of considerable development. The most important crafts are hand-woven light shoe, curtain, engraving, kilim and rug.

City of Kermanshah is the center of the province; other cities are Islam-abad Qarb, Paveh, Javan-roud, Sar Pol Zahab, Sonqor, Sahneh, Qasr Shirin, Kangavar and Guila Gharb.
