The Frissiras Museum, the only museum of Contemporary European Painting in Greece, was founded in Dec. 2000 as a non-profit organization. It is located in Plaka, the historical center of Athens, in 2 fully renovated buildings according to modern musicological standards.
In the museum's main galleries (3 Monis Asteriou St.) are housed parts of the permanent collection, which includes more than 3000 oil-paintings, drawings and sculptures of the last 50 years, dedicated to the human figure and produced by Greek and other European artist.
In the premises of 7 Monis, Astriou St., individual shows as well as group retrospective exhibitions of contemporary Greek and other European artists are organized almost every two months.
The museum organizes a wide range of events for art and culture.
The Frissiras Museum mainly aims to encourage new ways of approach to contemporary painting for children and young people.
The Art Shop of the museum offers a unique variety of objects, such as engraving of well-known Greek and foreign artists, selected books, small dimension sculptures, jewelry and many other presents of fine quality.

In a friendly and handsomely designed space in the main building, visitors can enjoy coffee and beverages of their preference. The Frissiras Museum Cafe can entertain up to 120 people and is also available for conferences...
