In 1996, the Sharjah Science Museum opened to become the only interactive hands-on museum in the United Arab Emirates. As well as providing exhibits and programs for the general public, the museum is committed to improving the science and technology learning opportunities for children in Sharjah and the other Emirates.
Inquire-based workshops are provided to groups of children from the Sharjah Children's Centers, local and private schools from across the UAE, and teacher groups from the UAE Educational Zones, the museum hosts over 50,000 visitors every year.
Inspiring the children of Sharjah, and the United Arab Emirates as a whole, to pursue science, technology or engineering as a career, is a key purpose of this museum.
Through exhibits and programs, the visitors are encouraged to see the beauty and wonder of the natural world; to appreciate the accomplishments of human beings; to make connections; to understand how science and technology relate to their daily lives; and, to think critically about the choices science and technology introduce into their lives.
The Exhibition Hall
The Exhibition Hall houses 50 interactive, hands-on exhibits designed to bring out the curious child in everyone of us.
You can test your own performance in a variety of activities, flexibility, grips strength and balance, and compare your results to the average for your age group. You can make a cartoon, use a music synthesizer, experiment with angular momentum, put together a puzzle of the human body, try perception experiments, visit Play-space with your young child, and much more.
You are free to explore at your own pace, and follow your own path. Trained staff are in the Exhibition Hall ready to help you use the exhibits, to understand how the science and technology in the exhibits fits into your daily life, and to answer your questions.
You can choose to attend any of the daily demonstrations on interesting scientific topics, in the Demonstrations Hall and the Planetarium.
Learning Center
This modern facility includes a Science Lab, a Computer Lab, and a Primary Workshop. Through its 25 different workshops that vary in length from one to two hours, the Learning Center provides learning experiences of greater depth than those of the Exhibition Hall.
The inquiry-based workshops promote analytical thinking, while enabling the participants to practice skills and gain knowledge, in a variety of science and technology fields.
The primary audience consists of children from the Sharjah Children's Centers, kindergarten to grade 12, students from the local and private schools in the UAE, and teacher's groups from the UAE Educational Zones. Some programs, such as Internet are offered to the public.
Discovery Center
The Discovery Center was set up in March 1999 to introduce children up to the age of 13 to the world of science and technology. Displays,
interactive games and play areas provide children with a playful environment in which they can have fun and learn about the world around them at the same time.
The Discovery Center is located on Al Dhaid Road, directly after Interchange 4 across from Sharjah Airport.
The Museum welcomes its visitors at Saturday to Tuesday 09-14, Wednesday to Friday 15:30-20:30
