It is, perhaps, difficult to discuss the art of stained glass painting, due to its short life span in the past, unknown artists, fragility of glass and the scantiness of source materials. However, the article attempts to briefly review the course of development of this fine but neglected art, which is part of the native folk art in the world.

This art can be traced to various countries such as Romania, United States of America and Hungary. This article reviews the history of the discover of the glass in Iran and other countries, followed by the course of development of stained glass painting, introducing the masters of this art, as well as the techniques used in Iran and the other countries in the world.
