A cursory survey of indigenous peoples of Iran before the arrival of Arians point to a prominent and powerful people, called Elamites, whose influence on later arrivals especially the Achamenids, stands out over as archaeological excavations develop further.

They entered the historic era circa 3300 BC through the use or writing to record information, and by forming a state circa 2680 BC. However, it is a curious fact that despite existing evidence to the contrary, there is a widespread misconception in academic circles in Iran. They believe the historic era in Iran began with the Arian Achamenids.

This article is an attempt to rectify such misconceptions by reviewing Elamite art, based on the historical record.
