by: Manavaz Alexandrian

born in 1938
Mohammad Hoghoughi is an exact and untiring critic of the modern Persian poetry and in various essays. He has clearly demonstrated the progress of contemporary poetry from the time of Nima Yushij. His Modern Poetry, published in two volumes in 1999, is a carefully elected anthology. In this work, Mohammad carefully selects those poets, who have left a new style in modern poetry.

His own poetry is largely objective and precise and explains direct images from life. A native of Isfahan, Hoghoughi has produced many valuable commentaries on modern Persian poetry.

Works:
Angles and Orbits, Winter Seasons, The Orientals, Inevitable Escapade, With Night, With Wound and and Wolf, A Cock with Thousand Wings, Night, Remain O Night and From Heart to the Delta

The Blue Abadan Train
Translated to English by M. Alexandrian

All the night
In the town
The agitated sound of the sun could be heard;

And at morning
When gurgling waters
Prayed on the black sun,
And the sun,
from underground passages
Joined the brawling waters of the morning.

The red gaze of the nurses,
The secret syringes,
The martyrdom of injection
And the metal eyes
Awaiting the train which brings the sun;
All the men
- The men who were beyond awakening -
On the roof of the seas
Were shadows of lindens.

And at mornings - every morning -
He sat down and asked about the travel of the wind and water:
"Has the train arrived?!"
And he saw
- That the train had arrived -
The blue train of Abadan
At the threshold of your disturbance over the sea.
