Born in 1938, Santurce (Vizcaya)
Studied art spontaneously in Austrian mining village, where he spent all his childhood and youth.
After experiencing a brief stay in the realms of non-formalism, Urcolo has remained faithful to realism. For a long time, he cultivated a certain expressionistic realism, of clear Spanish precedence.
These works reflected the words and encouragement of Jose Ortega. Later on, when he had matured and was more certain of his way, Urcolo launched into a phase of deliberate ant aestheticism, making sure that his reasoning should not be put off the track by his painting.
In 1970s, his realism had become more symbolist; although at the same time was also bitterer, more aggressive, more blatant.
