“Moharramat” means the black and green stripped cloth of post-Islamic era.
“Stripped” or “Moharramat” image is one of the oldest designs of Iranian carpet, older than Nazim and similar vase designs.
It could be divided in to various groups of bicolor or multicolor, wide and narrow.
Bicolor type with a white strip as one color and black, dark blue or jasper green as the other, is woven usually at close strips.
Multicolor also is divided into narrow or wide categories.
Wide stripped is in vogue only in Qashqai, Kurdistan and Derakhsh. Narrow stripped appropriates to Qashqais, Kurdistan, Farahan and Azerbaijan Republic.
Qashqai region is the only place, in which all types of stripped, wide and narrow in various colors are woven.
