Quai d'Orsay railway station, in Paris, designed by Victor Alexandre Federic Laloux, is a beautiful building. In 1900, it was inaugurated at the same time as the International Exposition.

It remained in use as a railway station until 1939. Thereafter it housed Madeleine Renaud's and Jean-Louis Barrault's theatre for a while, and Jacques Duhamel, Georges Pompidou's late minister of culture, had it registered as a national monument.

The suggestion of its transformation into a museum came from Jean Chatelain. The interior architect in charge of this operation was Ms. Gae Aulenti.

Nineteenth century artifacts are preserved in this museum. Also offering a library and a restaurant.
